Abstract:
The observed irregular and very large amplitude variations that occur in
some Cepheid variable stars remained a mystery for a long time. We show
how the mechanism for this behavior can now be understood with modern
nonlinear time-series analysis that consists of a phase-space
reconstruction from the observed lightcurve data. Specifically
demonstrate that the dynamics that underlies this behavior is a
low-dimensional, and draw conlusions about the physical mechanism.
